[Part one] Before I discovered the Rat Club, I was a despicable waste of space. I worked a 9-5 job, raised my family, groomed myself, ate regular meals and was a contributing member of society. [Part two] The Rat Club provided a supporting safe space for me to realize that the purpose of life was not to take responsibility, to find purpose in work, family or community. But to forego responsibility, traipse into the sewer and join my brethren. To wallow in the scum and sludge of the underground. To feast on all things rotten, raw and wriggling. To neglect all hygiene or grooming. To lurk in both a self-inflicted exile and surrounded by kinsmen. No mainstream society could ever offer me such an outlet to truly become
who I am. So thank you to the Rat Club for giving the gift of self-discovery.
